A Little Birdy

‘Piaf’ is French for ‘little sparrow’ and perfectly captures Simon Livingstone’s small, sweet and unpretentious restaurant.

Simon Livingstone is well known around the Brisbane hospitality scene. With the success of his two ‘hole-in-the-wall’ cafes, both called Espresso Garage, behind him he decided to get back to his first love, restauranteuring, by opening Piaf.

Simon chose Tell to create the brand for his new restaurant. “It is hard to find designers who are young, doing contemporary work – and at the same time flexible and approachable," says Simon. "Tell are very flexible and forward thinking, so they suited my needs perfectly.”

Article Review by Clare Treston

in Australian Financial Review, 14 Feb 2009, by Lisa Allen

The customer with cash is king this year as businesses fall over themselves to get a share of consumers wallets. This article describes business fears of customers “cocooning” themselves until the economic storm passes. There are many bargains to be had for the customer with cash to spend – especially for travel, cars and property. The author advises consumers who aren’t getting a bargain to look the salesperson in the eye and say very slowly: “Is that your best price?”

Well he's a New Zealander, but we'll claim him. Kris Sowersby  has picked up two awards at this years TDC awards in New York, for his typefaces for Hardys and Bank of New Zealand. This makes his tally three awards in two years, almost unheard of for someone so young. Yes I'm a Type Nerd.
